Beijing Olympics Preps

by Julie Smith on 2007-09-24

China is in full force preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games, the eyes of the world increasingly focus on Beijing as the big day approaches. The Olympics will be held from August 8th to August 24th with the motto “One World, One Dream”.

The game will consist of 302 events in 28 sports, the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletics events and the soccer finals will be celebrated at the Beijing National Stadium already prepared to welcome the world emissaries as they arrive.

Throughout the entire city of Beijing the Olympics atmosphere can be felt thanks to the big progress made by the Commission and Organizing Committee over the last months. Is not all about sports, it is also about publicity, tourism, politic relationships, security and environment.

The world is waiting to see the potential of China and the power of Asian people to show their best face and the Beijing Organizing Comitte is making great efforts to deliver more detailed and efficient preliminary work for the 2008 Games. Prove of it is the recent obtaining of the environmental management system credential (re-certified ISO14001).

Additionally, China has also started a battle against tobacco; they aim for a smoke-free Olympics and are planning to announce new regulations next Thursday, which will include bans in all of the 37 Olympic competition sites and dozens of other training sites including the Olympic village, designated Olympic hotels, restaurants, and entertainment areas. The goal consists on transmitting the message to the rest of the world.

Chinese people do think about every single aspect but if you think everything is set up for the games…you are wrong, the Beijing's subway system is currently undergoing major expansions; an additional seven lines and more than eighty new stations are being constructed including a direct link to Beijing Capital International Airport. Everything is schedule to be done by July 30th.

Everyone awaits for August 8th and after years of preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Chinese people will finish the work and will open their arms to the world and share in its culture in a big “Olympic” party.
