Bringing down the house - Ben Mezrich
by marcashton on 2008-07-23I loved this book! Sorry I just had to get that out of my system before I got started.
In the early 90’s card counting at Blackjack went high tech as teams of MIT students hit the casinos for millions. Ben Mezrichs book “Bringing down the house” tracks the progress of the formation of one of these teams from bright young kids to high rollers in the casinos and the subsequent fall from grace as the casinos hunted the teams down.
What I loved about this book was how real the characters made it feel and how close to the action the reader is made to feel. You feel like you are being dragged along for the ride as the characters get sucked into the glamour of the Vegas life and the way they keep trying to go for the next big score.
While the concept of card counting seems mathematical there is little to no math involved so the read stays light and fast the whole way through. The reader is entertained to the end. I enjoyed it so much that I read it again almost instantly checking if there were any bits and pieces I missed the first time around.
