Can video conferencing reduce the rate of climate change?

by Gina Bray on 2007-09-22

Global warming has been a subject that most of us have grown up hearing about, it has been a concern for some for many years but it appears to have been thrust into the limelight in recent years. Many of the world’s politically sensitive governments and prominent scientists have all started to take notice of the extreme weather conditions that are starting to plague our planet, they are talking more seriously about solutions and action that needs to be taken NOW to ensure our world’s health.

CO2 production is at record levels; there is a large amount of resources that are wasted on a daily basis and now is the time to take action. It is very simple to think to ourselves that we, as individuals, cannot do anything about the collective polluting and the wasting of resources but of course we all know change is a gradual process brought about by individuals changing their behaviour. You and I make the difference, if we all started to think about how we effect the planet with our actions, global warming can be slowed and may even be reversed. If we assume that all is lost no-one will try to change, we have to take responsibility both in our business lives as well as our private lives. Eyenetwork offers a solution to the huge amount of unnecessary business miles that add to the huge CO2 output we generate. Every year thousands of air miles are spent attending business meetings abroad that could be more easily carried out using the high quality video conferencing technology that is available from Eyenetwork.

Sophisticated equipment is available to enable anyone anywhere to organise and hold a business meeting, seminar or training session without leaving the office. Video conferencing and audio conferencing can be used for many different purposes:
• Giving evidence to Magistrates or Crown Court
• Casting for television production
• In house business presentations
• Global environmentally friendly conferencing
• Product training for employees and clients
• Sales representations and product launches
• Design and creative assessment, project liaison
• Business to business consultancy services
• Recruitment interviews
• Even linking families on special occasions
Eyenetwork technology offers great facilities to help people, within the business world, get closer and communicate more effectively, these include:
• Video Conferencing
• Audio Conferencing
• Multipoint Bridging

While business travel if often necessary it is also often unnecessary. A meeting via videoconferencing can achieve the same results as a meeting in person. The distinct advantage of videoconferencing is the lack of travel time, often substantially lower cost and almost zero environmental impact.
