Colon Problems - Do You Have a Serious Problem With Your Colon?

by JP Richardson on 2008-07-23

Unfortunately, colon problems are a fact of life that many people have to deal with. The colon is the part of the body that absorbs the undigested parts of the foods we eat, causing a buildup within its walls. Its purpose is to take in nutrients from this matter. When food is not properly digested, problems can arise.

Take for instance, hemorrhoids. A common problem in the colon, hemorrhoids are groups of swollen veins in the rectum or anus, and bleeding can occur as a result of this colon problem.

Other problems include anal fissures, or a painful tear in the anus; and inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulitis. This is when the wall of the colon forms a pouch that bleed or flame up, sometimes causing pain in the abdomen. Inflammatory bowel diseases can cause diarrhea, pain and bleeding. Abnormal growths can also occur in the colon, and these either can be malignant or benign- but always check up on them with a doctor’s visit.

It is important to keep the colon healthy, because doing so increase your chances of avoiding these problems. Colon cleaning can be done in a variety of ways, including a healthy diet of fiber-rich ingredients and plenty of water, along with sufficient exercise and sleep. Laxatives are another way, but are not recommended for long-term use. A colonic irrigation, or flush of the system using a rectal tube, is chosen over enemas as they avoid unpleasant odors associated with the former procedure. Herbal supplements are another natural way to cleanse the colon, and also can be used to stay regular.
