Designer Upholstery Fabrics Save Marraiges - And Money Too!

by Art Allen on 2007-09-24

Congratulations! You finally convinced your husband that it was time to get rid of his old tattered and torn easy chair. (Either that or you had the Salvation Army come and haul it off while he was at work!) To soften the blow, you searched and searched and finally found the perfect replacement. The color is good, the style masculine enough, and a new piece of furniture really brightens up the living room.

Now we’re going to learn the real reason men do not like to replace their old, worn out furniture. It’s not that they’ve become too attached, as we would like to believe. It is because now, as our feminine eyes survey the room we realize that since the chair has been replaced, the sofa’s got to go, and those drapes...ugh!!! He knew all along that the cost of a new chair would not be the end of it. You are now on a mission to totally redecorate the entire room!

There is a compromise. Recover the old sofa at a fraction of what a new one would cost. Make some new drapes yourself; even hiring a seamstress can be less expensive than purchasing new drapes. Shopping for fabric online makes this project a breeze. Most manufacturers and retailers will provide samples for you to preview at a nominal cost. There are a wide variety of fabric types available online. You can choose from old-fashioned tapestries, faux-leather vinyls, and even themed prints such as animal prints, billiards, rustic lodge patterns, coastal patterns, and southwestern designs.

The waterproof vinyls are available in a wide array of colors to compliment any decor and are soft and easy to work with. They are easy to keep clean and will stand up to heavy use. You could mix it up a bit and use a suitable print for throw pillows. The tapestry-like jacquard fabrics also hold up well under heavy use and provide a more antique look. The themed prints can add just the right touch to a rustic motif, a jungle theme, a game room, or an old-style gentleman’s den.

Whatever you choose, you will certainly save money over purchasing new furniture and you will be thrilled with the results. And he’ll be so thrilled with the money saved, you might even be able to convince him that it’s time for a new stove!
