Exclusive Interview: Rob And Amber, 4th Team Eliminated On The Amazing Race: All-stars

by Groshan Fabiola on 2007-09-22

One of the most popular couples in American television today would probably have to be Rob and Amber Mariano, not because they’ve become involved in some eyebrow-raising scandal, but because of their reappearance in two of the biggest reality competition series in the small screen today. Funnily enough, the two wouldn’t even have gotten together if not for their participation in the Survivor series. Rob had initially joined Survivor during its’ fourth season, while Amber competed during the show’s second season. They both failed to win the competition their first times around, but when they returned for another season on Surivor: All-Stars, Amber came out victorious with the help of Rob. Now, why would a highly-driven man from Boston help an equally competitive woman from Pennsylvania? The answer is simple: love.

Yes, love will make anyone do crazy things, and as if it wasn’t enough to conquer the world of Survivor, the unstoppable Rob and Amber entered another stressful competition, The Amazing Race. They came into the competition not just as boyfriend-girlfriend, but as a fiancée-fiance, and was strong, conniving and devious enough to finish the race in second place. Despite losing the prize money, they did win a number of prizes for arriving first at several pit stops.

When they were contacted by the show and asked to participate in The Amazing Race: All-Stars, Rob and Amber surprisingly were not sure if joining again would be a good idea. Ultimately though, they decided to take on the challenge for the second time, and although they proved to be a big threat again, they failed to come far in the race, having been the fourth couple to be eliminated. During the first three legs of the race, Rob and Amber were at the top of the pack, but quickly fell to the bottom when they experienced difficulty in building the signpost. More time was wasted when they were told they had misspelled one of the words on the signpost.

Being eliminated doesn’t mean the whole adventure wasn’t worth it for Rob and Amber. After all, the competition gave them the opportunity to travel to various places in South America, and what couple in their right mind would not consider that a great experience?
