Family Vacation Time at the Beach

by james ellison on 2007-09-22

Whenever it comes round to your vacation time, it can be difficult enough to choose where to go if you’re single and going with friends, or in a relationship or married and going with your partner. However, if you’re a parent, the difficulty factor can ramp up quite considerably. One of the ways you can counter this, though, is by taking a family vacation at the beach.

No matter how old or young your children are, everyone loves the beach, making a family vacation all that easier. Whether it’s activities for younger children, or snorkeling and water sports for older children (and not forgetting yourself!), beach vacations have something for all the family, and the good news is that there are plenty of excellent resorts around the US.

Cape Cod

An extremely popular destination for families wanting to go on a beach vacation in the US is Cape Cod, and one of the best places to stay is the Chatham Bars Inn. Some of the features this child-friendly resort offers include:

· Beach Buddy program for 4-6 year olds. Here, your kids will enjoy such activities as learning about wildlife and music, as well as evening safari hunts and pajama parties.
· Clam Diggers is great fun for ages 7-9, which is a beach Olympic event where your children will learn about how to track animals.
· If you have older children that are 10 and older, then there are boat trips, soccer, scavenger hunts and much more, all in one great place.

And with its host of things to do for parents, such as a Seawood Body Mask detox or a twilight cruise, there’s something here for everyone.

Florida

An ever-popular choice for family vacations, due to the stretches of glorious beaches and being the home to Disneyland, Florida offers a wide variety of resorts to choose from. One of the best is the Boca Raton Resort & Club, due to the choices available for both parents and children, which include:

· Mini water park for children
· Supervised children’s program for ages 3-11
· Shopping excursions
· Wave running, windsurfing and other water sports

Hawaii

Waikiki Beach also offers a truly tropical setting, and has everything from the normal water sports to snorkeling in the famous Shark’s Cove, as well as the Honolulu Zoo, ideal for children of all ages.

Georgia

Perhaps one destination that doesn’t immediately spring to mind is Georgia, when you think of somewhere that has beaches and lots of family vacation activities in mind. However, take a trip to Cumberland Island and you’ll soon change your mind. At over 17 miles long, there’s much to do here for everyone, including:

· Exploring the clear waters for sea turtles
· Lots of old historic buildings for the whole family to wander around and explore
· The Cumberland Island National Seashore which has maritime forests, wild horses and armadillos, for the nature-loving family.

Combine this with one of the most relaxing vacations you’ll have anywhere, as well as a huge stretch of sandy beaches, and this part of Georgia proves to be a hidden gem when it comes to taking a family vacation at the beach.
