How Can An Air Purifier Help Asthma Patients?

by Jason Uvios on 2007-09-22

Does it take anything to breathe? Well this is easier for someone like you and me who can breathe freely. But will it be a similar consequence for an asthma patient? Think again!

Cureless asthma

It's a real caveat before us. Why?

- More and more people are becoming chronic patients of breathing trouble in the present context.

- The number has already reached 20 millions in the United States itself. And the count has become an ever increasing phenomenon.

- Unfortunately asthma has no proper remedial treatment as such. If you are an asthma patient you will have to bear it lifelong.

- Yet how can you stay well? This is the focal concern of research related to asthma in the medical world.

Precautions to be taken

The most important precaution you have to take to prevent asthma attack is breathing in fresh and pollutant-free air. And the key to your protection begins from your home and then your work place.

Air purifier and asthma are big foes. Therefore if you want to fight back the asthma triggers like the various allergens, dust, pollen, smoke and chemicals, you will have to install air purifiers in those places. The first of course would be your home.

Air purifier really helps

The basic feature of the air purifier lies in the name itself. But as a user what bothers you most is the effectiveness. If it is meant just to keep your room fresh, a nominal quality air purifier will do. But when the concern is something serious as asthma, you can't play with the quality.

Experts recommend

- When the issue is to drive away the asthma triggers as afar as possible from the dwelling zone of a sufferer, a high efficiency air filter in the air purifier is must.

- The American Thoracic Society and the Department of Energy strongly recommends the use of High Efficiency Particulate Arrestant (HEPA) air filters in the air purifier.

- The reason has a strong ground. When HEPA filter was enable to protect the environment from radioactive particles at the time of World War II then can't it capture the simple and common contaminants present in the air we breathe in our home?

- HEPA filter can completely wipe out the bigger sized particles and smaller particles up to 0.03 microns can be filtered at ease. The contaminants generally existing in the air we breathe indoors are not minor than this size.

Therefore even if cure is not present, don't get panic. Prevention will protect you most efficiently if you abide by the expert's say.
