How To Use Forums to Build Back Links

by Tom J. Smith on 2007-09-24

If you want many one way links pointing to your website, there is no better way than posting to forums. There are numerous forums on the internet that cover all subjects. Some are very popular and well managed. Others are less visited but can still be beneficial in building back links.

The first thing you need to do is try and find a forum that fits your niche. If your website is about internet marketing, there are many marketing forums. If you run a website about dogs, then pet forums are the key. A simple search in Google should yield several forums. Once you find several that fit, then you need to become a member. They all require you to signup before you can post anything. Before you post anything you should browse the categories and see if you can add anything worthwhile. Meaning if someone posts a question, maybe you have the solution and can post the answer.

You will want to set up your profile and signature. This can include a link to your website, the key to building back links. Every post you make will have your signature—a one way link to your website. Each forum has their own rules about signatures. Some won’t allow you to display it until you have made a certain number of posts. Others limit what you can say. Most forums have rules about signature spam.

Be an active member, post your own questions, and answer other member’s questions. Just don’t fill your posts with spam and links to your website. You will be banned in no time. Read the rules and then follow them. Search through the different categories to get a real feel for what people are looking for.

There are another group of forums that allow you to outright advertise your products and services. These are called “free advertising forums” They can serve the same purpose of building back links and drive traffic to your site at the same time. They do require you to register like others but they are a little looser with the rules. Some have categories that allow you to announce your new website or blog. They can certainly help you get your site indexed. If you are looking for these forums simply do a google search for “free advertising forum”

Search engines love forums and as they get indexed, your links will be picked up. Giving you a nice boost in search engines. Some more popular forums are crawled virtually everyday so you link could show up in search engines within days.

Start posting to forums today and you will start building lots of one way back links.
