Life as You Like It

by Roderick Armstrong on 2007-09-24

David is a manager for a major national discount store. He works 70 hour weeks and when he gets home he is too exhausted to enjoy his family or time of. He's worked for this company for fourteen years and he can't believe that it has been that long. He and his wife Lori have just taken out a second mortgage on their home to help prepare for the twins college education.

David has two late model cars, Lexus's. One for him and Lori and an old beater that the twins share. David started working for retailer straight out of college because they had an attractive "fast start" program to help get new grads into the workforce. Now, it's 14 years later and he still works at the same company. Sadly, David can't even remember what's it's like to have a slower pace where he could actually sit down and take a rest. Vacations are few and always rushed when they do happen and it seems as if the twins grew up and he missed most of their lives. He knows that other people make good money in home-based businesses, MLM, Internet Marketing. etc. but he feels trapped by his job and wouldn't even know where to start or who to turn to for help. David really wants a quick change.

Sound familiar? This cycle of a dreary existence is all to familiar. Life isn't bad for David; he and his family have a nice home and cars and enjoy some material possessions. But it's a drag having to always punch the clock while life slips by. David's dreams of setting the world on fire died long ago while stuck in a traffic jam.

I'm not trying to make you depressed here. I'm trying to help you remember the fire, the passion, the energy you once had when you knew the world was yours for the taking. More importantly, what kind of cycle are we modeling for our children? Is this pattern of boredom with occasional sprinkles of excitement (called vacations and birthdays) that we can hope to pass on to them?

We come into this world full of desire and drive to win. We are then taught to get good grades, get into a good college so that we can get a good job and then have kids, and repeat the cycle all over again. Sadly, we're taught to believe that life is supposed to be just like that. Work hard all your life, raise a family, die. I think life is supposed to be much richer than that.

Sadly, this is not the life we dreamed of as kids. You are supposed to live life as you like it. What happened? Life happened to us. We are sucked into a vacuum and we only realize it when it's too late to attempt to get back to the lives of our dreams.

Don't despair. It is not too late. This is the moment. You can make a quick change now by the power of decision. That is where the change in your life starts. I encourage you to recapture the life you deserve. Don't give in to intertia. I know you deserve the life of your dreams.

My purpose here is to help you believe. The life above that I described above was mine. If I can make a positive change for my family, so can you. It's possible for anyone who chooses to believe. It's possible for you if you believe.
