Make Your Resume Stand Out With These Unique Tips
by Adrianna Kristian on 2007-09-22Send your resume as a CD-ROM or floppy disk. In bright red or blue marker, write your name and the position you are seeking - such as "Bob Smith, Senior Systems Analyst." This method is unique and will ensure you stand out from the competition, grab the employers attention and spark their curiosity.Drop off the CD-ROM/Disk in person or send it by mail.
If you are computer savvy you could have your resume open up as a Powerpoint document.Create a brochure of your resume. On the cover of the brochure you could have your name and address on the in colorful or bold letters and include the remaining sections of your resume on the inner pages.
If you aren't comfortable with creating a brochure or aren't particularly 'artsy' you can use a brochure templateor have someone who knows a lot about design help you out. This can possibly backfire if you're brochure is very amateurly designed - so watch out for that.
Stick a post-it note on the top of your resume/cover letter that gives the employer a solution to problem they maybe having.
You've probably heard before that presenting a solution to a problem the company is having is a great way to land a position - and it is. Stick a colorful post-it note on your resume/cover letter that says - P.S. - I have a possible
solution for your problem with _____.
First of all - the post-it note will immediately set you apart from the crowd and catch the employers eye - and your idea to solve a problem the company is having will make the employer curious and want to call you to find out your solution.
Here's a unique way to grab employers attention without even sending out your resume:
Invest in a car ad that you stick on the back window of your car. It could say something like: "Employers! Looking to hire a (name position) with over (# yrs) experience in (skill)? Call (555) 555-5555 and ask for (name)
The best part about this technique is you'll most likely receive calls from employers near your home. Better yet, drive down to the location of your desired position and park your car in the parking lot for a day or two.
It'll practically be like having a giant billboard calling out to the recruiter who's looking to fill that position.
This probably isn't a good idea if you're currently employed and your boss doesn't know you are looking for a new job!
