Securing the Strut and Inner Fender with Toyota Strut Mount

by amandanealy on 2007-09-24

The suspension system of Toyota automobiles is incorporated with struts to absorb the vibrations created by the movement of the vehicles and the harsh road conditions. They are mounted to provide optimum comfort to both the passengers and the driver. Riding an automobile must be a pleasant experience so that people will appreciate their existence and get the most benefits out of them. When installing Toyota struts, there must be Toyota Strut Mounts in between the inner fender and the strut set. The strut is designed to be installed in the front inner fenders both left and right. It can also be an option in the rear suspension. However, many vehicle owners would still prefer the leaf spring type of suspension in the rear section of their vehicle.

The strut suspension is a combination of the coil spring and the shocks. They are mounted together with the coil surrounding the shock. In other suspension models, the coil spring and the shock are separately installed. The advantage offered by the strut is the ability of the shock in this set-up to immediately absorb the energy generated by the coil spring as it rebounds. In mounting the strut, there must be some form of buffer between it and the inner fender to avoid a metal-to-metal contact that will create a thumping noise around the wheels while driving over road bumps or craters. This is why the Toyota Strut Mount is crafted. When the vehicle is passing through rugged terrains, the ride becomes bumpy. However, the impact of the bumpy ride to the occupants is reduced due to the presence of the strut suspension. It tends to contract and expand so that the vehicle and its passengers will not experience a lot of vibrations and movements. As the strut suspension moves up and down, the inner fender may be hit and this may lead to the formation of dents and holes in the said part. Although the inner fender is not seen, the effect of the collision between the inner fender and the strut suspension will be obviously seen once the hood is opened. This can be avoided when Toyota Strut Mounts are inserted in between the inner fender and the strut suspension. Everytime the strut suspension moves as the vehicle is driven, it will now be the strut mount that will receive the banging and hitting and the inner fender will no longer be exposed to too much metal stress, thereby prolonging its lifespan and optimizing its service. Comparing the price of the inner fender and the Toyota Strut Mount, the mount is cheaper and is much easier to replace. It is a wise management practice to prolong expensive parts and sacrifice the cheaper ones. This way, maintenance expenses will be minimized.

Periodic inspection must be practiced in order to detect a worn-out strut mount. Some of the symptoms of a broken strut mount are the presence of scratching metal sound or a thumping noise that emanates from the suspension system. Replacing the mount immediately so as not to aggravate the condition is recommended. Every vehicle must always be in tip top shape so that there will be no hindrance everytime it is driven.
