The Efficiency of Offset Printing for Postcard Production

by uprinting on 2007-01-19

Postcards are said to be the economical way of reaching out for clients of different places. It serves as a valuable tool that you can have for your business campaign, promotions, advertisements, greeting cards, coupon cards, invitations, advertisements and business reply.

The valuable contribution of postcards for businesses is that they are able to reach out for clients of different places and keep clients updated of the latest products and services offered. Mainly as a valuable tool for advertising, there is certain printing process used – the offset printing.

Offset printing is said to be the commonly used printing method. Almost commercial printers engage with this printing equipment. Though it is said that the process is standard still it produces the most qualified and quality-filled postcard print.

Offset printing works on a very simple principle where water and ink don’t mix. The images, words and art are put on plates, which then are being moistened first by the water then by the inks. The inks hold fast to the image area and the water to the non image area. From then the images are now transferred to a rubber blanket and from the rubber blanket to the paper. Mainly this process is called to be as offset because the image does not directly go to the paper from the plates, as it does in some other forms of printing.

Significantly the four color offset printing process means that you can put any full color logo, photograph or graphic on your postcards. With this you are assured that you can come up with cards of brilliant and attractive colors.

Mainly the steps in the offset printing process are divided into three steps:

1. Pre-Press Production
Proceeding with the printing process before the job are being printed, the document is required to be placed on printing plates. In this process there are tow ways on which the images are placed on the plates we have the older system and the newer system.

The older system involves producing film negatives and is now largely created from digital files in an image setter. The images from the negatives are transferred to printing plates much the same as photographs are developed.

On the other hand the newer system does away with the film stage and plates are directly produced from image setting systems. Each color seeks a separate plate and if color photographs are required. This process is done using the four standard colors – cyan (blue), magenta (red), yellow and black.

2. The Press Run
The printing process used to print the majority of printer paper is done on offset printing process. These presses can print a high speeds and can use very large sheets of paper. The press speed can reach up to 20,000 impressions per hour. On the other hand some presses allows to print a number of colors at one time and this makes the effective speed of offset printing much faster than ay other process.

3. Bindery
This is the final step where your postcard prints are completes. The stacked sheets of the new-printed paper are cut and put together so that the pages fall in the correct order. The final component of the process is done with a blade that trims the paper to the final delivered size. The product is then ready to the end destination.

The efficiency of offset printing to postcard production is really advantageous and beneficial particularly if you are after printing large number copies of postcards or nay print material.
