The Firewalk Experiences
by Roderick Armstrong on 2007-09-24I've been to many of the seminars, read the books, even walked on fire with Anthony Robbins. I found Tony Robbins to be an absolutely terrific guya fantastic individual who truly and sincerely cares about people.
I did affirmations and all of the other good stuff at the seminars but just didn't seem to get the change I was seeking. The reason is that I didn't have a big enough reason to change. I didn't want to change badly enough. You can do all of the self-help exercises but if you don't have leverage on yourself, you will not change. You must have a reason "WHY?" you want to change.
Are you making an attempt to live your life to your fullest extent possible? If you don't have leverage then you will not change. You need a big enough reason "WHY" you need to change. Why do you think so many celebrities are in and out of rehab so much? It's a big joke with some of them; a publicity stunt. They don't really want to change and therefore they don't change.
That's how it is with everybody. Earl Nightingale, the great motivational speaker once made this quote: "each man is exactly where he wants to be." If you give that comment some real thought, you will see that Earl was right. It is a significantly profound statement, and it's true.
It's like you're saying"the world, my family, friends, neighbors, no one is worth the trouble of attempting to reach my full potential." " I am ok with my remote control. It controls me and I like it like that." "When my kids grow up, I will be ok looking them in the eye and saying 'son, you were not important enough for me to tear myself away from the TV so that I could provide a spectacular future for you.' "The sports channel was more important to me and that's why I am now leaving a legacy of struggle and hard work for only a few pennies a day for you." "I love you son. Have a nice life."
You couldn't really mean that could you?! Of course not. However, that's what your actions may be communicating. I realized that my family was headed towards the same destiny: you're born, you go to school, struggle to get into a good college, graduate in debt, get married/have kids, spend the rest of your adult life trying to get out of debt, and all along the way, teach your kids to repeat the same pattern. What's that all about? I believe there is much more to life than that. My kids will have choices when they are grown. They will not be forced to repeat that pattern.
What's your Firewalk Experience? Do you have a big enough reason "WHY" you have to change? When you find that reason, you'll be able to set the world on fire.
