The Many Faces Of Stress
by Andrew John on 2007-09-24Stress can affect everybody, but for the same amount of stress or severity of causes everyone reacts in different way, so setting its precise definition is very hard if not impossible. Still stress, unlike many other conditions, affect usually both our mind and body and no one is immune to it.
As a stress we consider the increasing level of anxiety and pressure suffered by a given person. Still, we must remember that stress is dangerous only when it exceeds the limits of the victim, many people find that they are able to work much better when exposed to small amounts of stress. In fact stress can be a problem only when a person is affected by it for too long or the level of the stress is too high.
Our job is usually more or less stressful, but everything is right as long as we supply ourselves with time to relax when we are at home. Continuous thinking about our work problems won't solve them, but may cause a build up of too much stress instead. When we can't free ourselves from such behavior, soon we will suffer from mood swings and even depression.
For some of us problems with stress start at home. Such situation takes place when we have dysfunctional relationships with our family, or even neighbors. When the level of the stress at home is too high, we are not able to fix even the simplest problems and this usually causes that things get even worse. Stress at home often ends in a vicious circle and can be really hard to deal with, for it affects the whole family.
We are also our own source of stress. We all have our dreams which we want to come true and which may become our driving force, but when we start worrying that it is impossible to make them real, then the stress appears. Such type of stress is especially dangerous for it can poison our life for many years and cause problems with physical and emotional health.
When we feel that the pressure is too high, we should immediately start searching for help. While the problems with too high stress level are usually very personal, the best situation is when the help comes from the source we can trust. Stress can be defeated, although usually it is a difficult and long process. Still, dealing with stress instead of falling into its trap will grant us with happier and healthier live after we will learn how to control it. The most important thing is to start working on it before it is too late.
