The Modern Elegance of Ultra-Strong Neodymium Jewelry

by Kurt Schmitt... on 2007-09-24

Neodymium jewelry is made from ultra-strong magnets. It's a unique concept among magnetic jewelry makers in that the beads are not strung together. Instead, it is held together by the magnetic field generated by the ultra-strong magnets.

Also called rare earth magnets, neodymium has industrial applications wherever high strength is required from light-weight magnets. You may have run into these powerfull magnets in professional speakers, guitar pick-ups, computer hard disks, microphones, and headphones.

As of late, they've become a popular way to make magnetic jewelry. This is in part due to the strength to weight ratio of the magnets themselves, but also due to the unique design.

With a nickel coating, these magnets are surprisingly strong and bind to each other so that the jewelry requires no strings. They do not need a clasp, and can be opened by separating any of the connecting magnets.

One unique feature that results from this design, is that it can be easily resized by adding or removing pieces. This makes them both flexible and fascinating as anklets, bracelets, or necklaces.

Coating the neodymium in nickel makes them more durable than jewelry that is gold or silver plated. This also gives the jewelry a shine and a silvery industrial look. This is a very appealing combination of classy elegance, with a modern edge.

As you can tell, neodymium jewelry is a very modern, very strong, but relatively light weight piece of magnetic jewelry. It's also fun to own.
