Traveling and Stress

by Andrew John on 2007-09-24

Traveling has always been stressful. Whether you only need to travel a couple of miles from home to work, or you go to another hemisphere for your holidays, the stress related to traveling can change the process in a never ending nightmare. If you are to really enjoy your holidays and keep your stress level down, you need to do a few things first.

Traveling to work is one of the most common causes of stress, but is also one of the easiest to avoid. It is enough to get up earlier - ten or twenty minutes may be enough to reduce your stress level a lot. This few minutes in reserve may change traveling to work into from a nightmare into a slow, pleasant drive. Another thing is listening to the radio. Soft music is able to minimize your stress while driving.

Another common stressful situation while traveling is traveling with children. They can be a real nuisance, especially during long drives. Coping with that is a bit more troublesome, yet it is still quite easy if you think about it a bit. The best solution is to travel at night whenever possible - children will be sleeping. If that's impossible, make sure that children have something to do while traveling so they don't become troublesome. Video games or DVDs are the best solutions, but books, board games or music (only if you like it, too!) can also work.

There is also one more thing you have to learn if you want to travel without stress. It is a relatively simple trick that will make all your travels a lot easier. The tpoint is that you have to remain calm even when you get stressed. If you follow that advice you will soon notice that your stress will go away. Remember that no hotel, bridge or traffic jam is worth to be furious about. Take a deep breath and relax - you will sooner or later arrive at your destination anyway and there is nothing you can really do to make it any faster now, so you can stop worrying right now.
